Who’s NOT at the Table – Outside Voices, continued

Last week’s Tip elicited a number of responses.  One of the most interesting, from Rosemarie Roth, Miami family law and Collaborative Family Law attorney and certified family mediator:  “Bill, In family law I have always referred to outside voices as “shadow people” who, as you noted, have no clue as to the specifics of the client’s case and simply use their own experiences in advising their “friend”.  Such individuals can thwart settlement or make the client so crazed that the client may lose his or her focus to resolve or settle. For this reason, in Collaborative Divorce cases I always use a neutral facilitator who has a mental health background and helps the parties move forward in the case.”

We have a plague.  It’s name is Alzheimer’s.  If you have not been touched by this disease – and I hope you have not! – I guarantee you know someone who has.  Throughout the US in the next several weeks the Alzheimer’s Association is sponsoring Walks to bring together people who want to support the fight against the disease and help those afflicted and their loved ones.  In Miami-Dade County the Walk is Saturday, November 7 at Museum Park, near the Perez Art Museum.  Registration begins at 7:30.  I have a team, “A Team to Remember”.  To join or support, please go to http://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=7405&pg=entry

Thank you!
